A totally rad unicorn shirt is overshadowing the seriousness of a music video that otherwise attempts to address the drug and alcohol addiction of Korean-American comedian Margaret Cho.
The video, "Intervention," released by Canadian twin pop stars Tegan and Sara, was supposed to be a wake up call for the 42-year-old Cho, who's admittedly struggled with addictions to drugs, alcohol, food and sex most of her life.
But critics say the video's most redeeming part is a tongue-in-cheek T-shirt, worn by Sara—one half of the indie Canadian pop duo. Many are enamored by her aqua-colored cotton blend, which prominently features the bust of a magical unicorn. The words "MEGAUNICORN" are emblazoned on the bottom of the shirt.
A glimpse of the super-fab fashion statement is first revealed 44 seconds into the 4:37-long video.
"I love Tegan and Sara, but I love that unicorn T-shirt even more," said groupie Jessica Higgins, who initially posted the band's video on her Facebook page. "I wonder where Sara got it? It would REALLY look good on me!"
The same-sex-scissor-loving sisters are notorious for inspiring global fashion trends. In 2007, they sported twin mullets, which essentially rocked the lesbian fashion world. Some say Sara's latest fashion expression will fan a wave of baby dykes wearing unicorn tees.
"Unicorn-inspired fashions are going to be really hot in 2011—especially among 30-something lesbians," predicted fashion guru Michael Kors. "I don't know what attracts lesbians to the mythical creature, but I'm guessing it's not the horn."
Unicorns.com, an online store which sells unicorn-related gifts and clothing, reported a 368 percent surge in sales since the "Intervention" video debuted on the web. In response to an outcry from unicorn lovers, the company has designed a unicorn Valentine Card, which retails for $2.50. The company expects it to be a best seller for same-sex romantics everywhere.
