Doctors are trying to determine what went wrong after a routine double-eyelid surgery essentially transformed a 19-year-old Korean woman into an anime-looking cartoon character.
Kim Lee, of Seoul, said she went in Tuesday morning for a two-hour Asian blepharoplasty to reshape the skin around her upper eyelids—and came out looking like the "fourth Powerpuff girl."
"There's Blossom, Buttercup, Bubbles—and now Bibimbap!" she said. "I look like the girl's Asian cousin! It's awful!"
Lee—who once dreamed of becoming a model and actress in America— now said it's unlikely she'll ever find work outside of appearances at anime conventions.
Blepharoplasty is a common outpatient surgery in Korea and usually performed through external incisions made along the natural skin lines of the eyelid. But doctors apparently botched Lee's operation leaving a wider than usual portal to her eye.
Surgeons said Lee's initial swelling and bruising could resolve in one to two weeks, but at least several months are needed until the final result becomes stable.
"Blepharoplasty's effects are best appreciated by comparing before and after photos of surgical patients," said Dr. Shin Yuhan, one of Korea's most well-noted plastic surgeons. "But that bitch is tore up from the floor up...I'm just sayin'"
Lee said she would likely file a malpractice suit against her surgeons.
She also isn't ruling out the possibility of appearing in a future Powerpuff Girls reunion show.
"I haven't been approached yet, but I'm definitely available," she said.
The Powerpuff Girls, an American animated television series about three kindergarten-aged girls who have superpowers was created by animator Craig McCracken. It aired for six seasons on Cartoon Network, until it was cancelled in 2005.
